Captivating Core

We were privileged to host another Captivating Core this March. This is always a special weekend, and it’s not “girly” or overly floral, but it is serious about hearing from Jesus.

We were able to unpack the feminine soul. How Jesus designed us, and what our core desires are.

To be romanced.

To have an irreplaceable role.

To have a beauty all your own to unveil.

As 2019 draws to a close

2019 has come to an end and what a productive year it has been. Heartland has made some wonderful friends this year in successful partnerships with both Drakensburg Boys Choir School and The Character Company… we have indeed learnt a lot along the way.

Drakensberg Boys Choir School is an all-boys choir school in the KZN Drakensburg. Almost 150 boys strong ranging from Grades 4 to 9, we as Heartland offer the school The Passed Thru Fire Experience for their Grade 8s and our Leadership Experience training for their grade 9s and prefect leaders.
The Character Company is an NGO and NPO committed to the mentoring of boys, particularly from fatherless homes. In TCCs own words their vision is: “To help raise boys to be good men with strong values, positively impacting families, communities and society, via a long-term MENtorship program.”
We look forward to the partnership we have started with TCC going forward as Heartland will host The Passed Thru Fire Experience for their boys and mentors.

We hosted our first school leadership week in January with the DBCS grade 9’s. Where we were able to discuss leadership styles and how they are used in everyday life.

We had 3 Passed Thru Fire Experiences, a Refined by Fire Experience and a successful Heartland Hunters this year. The Heartland Hunters Experience is an event for first-time hunters (under 18) with their Dads

This year also saw the launch of the Wild at Heart Basic Experience. The first Basic was so successful that we put on other a month later. This has led to the formation of men’s connect groups. Wild at Heart Basic is hosted over a 3 night weekend, for men and is based on the book “Wild at Heart” written by John Eldredge… A book we recommend every man reads. (Also recommended for all wives to read… to help understand the men they do life with) W@H Basic is NOT recommended for anyone under 21.

We are also looking forward to launching the Captivating Core weekends in 2020. Like Wild at Heart Basic, Captivating Core is a weekend event but focussed on women and based on the book “Captivating” by Stasi and John Eldredge.

In November we had a PTF that was focused on boys from fatherless homes and orphanages. We partnered with The Character Company to see a successful event. We’d like to thank all those who contributed financially towards this event as most of the families involved were unable to fund their boy’s attendance.

The launch of our You Tube channel was also a highlight this year. We have been working with Matt Swart from Ocean Driven Media to produce a PTF promo video. Our hope is to do the rounds in Gauteng, KZN, Western Cape and the Eastern Cape using the video to promote The Passed Thru Fire Experience as we expand into South Africa as a whole. Our target groups are schools, Church groups and men’s groups.

Our volunteer team have been amazing this year and continues to grow. We saw a long-time serving member, Roger Tedder, become lead elder at Hillside Church in Hillcrest, KZN and Zolani Phakathi ordained as an elder at Sarepta Church in Gillitts, KZN.

Heartland’s board of directors also saw a change with Roger Tedder coming on in 2019.

2020 is also set to be an exciting year for us. Dates are set for the two Character Company PTF’s planned in Gauteng and one in both the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.

In short, Heartland SA is growing. We are excited to be part of this adventure and look forward to seeing how God plans it out. All of this would not be possible without our committed and dedicated volunteers for whom we are very grateful as they give up their time to serve those attending the events.

In ending,

Heartland runs on three things…

Faith
Time
Funds

Please prayerfully consider contributing in any one or all of these…

Faith – Pray for us in our mission to our communities.
Time – Please feel free to join us on any of our events to serve those we connect with.
Funds – sadly, what we do does cost money and so many who benefit from our mission are unable to contribute towards what they receive from it. If you feel so led, please consider partnering with us financially.

Sadly, and thankfully, 2017 has come to an end!

Wow, what a year 2017 has been, we have had a record number of 5 events in KZN this year and we had ventured into a new direction with an event in Gauteng focussed on the fatherless. We were able to touch approximately 50+ families.

What a privilege it has been to serve on this amazing team. A team that is made up of nearly 120 volunteers. With students from Kersney College,  Thomas Moore, Hillcrest High, St Johns, Epworth, Curro and Hilton College just to name a few in KZN alone. These students keep amazing us in their ability to serve and volunteer time and time again.

2017 also saw the continuation of the Heartland Hunting Experience, headed up by Rich Pooley as well as our outward bound – Heartland Adventures Experiences with Gareth “Frodo” Potgieter at the helm. These Experiences really allow the wild hearts of our boys to take wing. Give us a shout if you would like to know more.

Daryl Schreiber had the amazing opportunity of being a guest speaker at a Q Commons event, Q-Ideas. He was able to share about rights of passage. We also had the opportunity to serve on a Passed Thru Fire in Hawaii on the island of Kauai with Rick Bundschuh. Daryl Schreiber and David Roome traveled to Kauai Christian Fellowship to see how they conduct a Passed Thru Fire with nearly no Father involvement.  What a wonderful experience and so much was learned with much of the experience being considered for inclusion locally in SA! They even had the opportunity to give out some “leopard treatment”! (Only those who have been will know…. *insert evil grin here*)

There is such excitement for 2018 as not only will we continue to have the Refined by Fire and Passed thru Fire experiences here in KZN and Gauteng again, but we will also be launching the Western Cape! We are also hoping to initiate the Eastern Cape program next year!

2018 Will also see the launch of the Legacy Experience in Gauteng for School leavers as well as Passed Thru Fire Advanced… watch this space!

To all of you who have loyally supported Heartland and our endeavors, we would like to thank you for your love, support, and heart and wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year. May the Kind walk with you and Bless you, abundantly.

We’d love to give a shout out to the following business’ who have supported us throughout the 11 years!

2016 Wrap up!

14124885_899488896850826_6153304573105689511_oWhat an amazing year 2016 has been. We started the year off with a team weekend with approximately 20 volunteers attending! We celebrated our 10th year of The Passed Thru Fire Experience by getting the author of the book (Passed Thru Fire), Rick Bundschuh out to experience Passed Thru Fire the “african way”.  We were able to organise a few get togethers so that the team could just mix with Rick and glean from him.

We were also privileged to launch The Passed Thru Experience in Australia with Ben De Bruyn, a former PTF boy himself! What a opportunity to see a young man step into manhood!

Our last event is running now on the 2nd of December, this will take us to a total of 6 events this year. Which means we were able to touch approximately 48 families.

Our plan for 2017 is to have 8 events. Starting in January with a fundraising event followed by two Refined By Fire events.

I’d like to end off by saying a huge thank you to our volunteer team, without your support and enthusiasm we would not be able to put on event after event.

Our proposed dates for 2017 are as follows:

(Please note that all dates are subject to change)
